General Service Cap by Kay Canvas

  • Fine weave wool serge
  • KD cotton lined
  • Small crown
  • Liner is stitched checked pattern
  • 1/2" head band
  • 2 brass eyelets

Introduced in September 1943 it was called Cap, General Service or Cap GS and was to be worn by soldiers who were issued the Field Service FS Cap. It took time to be accepted but by the time of Normandy in June 1944 most soldiers that were not issued a coloured beret were wearing the GS Cap.

The To wear the cap correctly the band was positioned level around the head and 1/2 " above the ears, the badge was worn over the left eye and the crown pulled down over the right ear.

To shape your cap place just the crown (NOT THE BAND) in hot water, let it soak for a few minute, then wring it out and soak in cold water. Repeat this twice then put in on your head and put the right side down and shape as required. Leave to dry on your head for an hour then put in a warm radiator and dry. Please note its made of wool and will shrink a bit so don't get the band wet unless its a bit big.
