The Silver tank destruction badge was an award given to individuals of the Army who destroyed an enemy tank single-handedly by a hand-held weapon. After a recipient had been awarded 4 silver badges on the 5th tank kill they would be replaced with the Gold tank destruction award, further kills would be awarded another silver.
Anti-tank units were not eligible for this award.
It was established on March 9, 1942 but could be awarded for actions after June 22, 1941
