M1861 Percussion Cap Pouch ACW and Indian Wars

The M1861 cap pouch was introduced as a simplified or improved design over the earlier M1850 percussion cap pouch.

The only change to the earlier cap pouch was the front flap was now one piece so the securing tab was cut into the flap rather than having a separate tab sewn onto the flap as on the earlier pouch.

This was used throughout the American Civil War by both the Union and Confederate forces.

The M1861 percussion cap pouch was still in use during the American Indian war. 

The pouch held percussion caps for any of the rifles or pistols that required a percussion cap to fire, there where not different percussion cap pouches for different weapons.

Our replica of the Model 1861 percussion cap pouch has the following features:

• Black leather with white stitching.
• One compartment with a wool liner.
• Double flap design to help keep the weather out and the caps dry.
• Second flap, the outer main flap fastens down directly onto a brass stud on the bottom of the pouch.
• Two belt loops are stitched and riveted on.
