Confederate Brass Plate Badge for the M1855 Cartridge Box CS

Confederate States brass plate badge for the flap of the M1855 cartridge box leather pouch.

This brass oval badge fits onto the flap of the leather cartridge box. The front of the oval badge has the letters CS for Confederate States and was used by the southern rebel soldiers at the beginning of the American Civil War. 

The heavy brass badge was lined with lead to increase the weight, this was so while in combat and the bag needed to be opened the extra weight helped keep the pouch from blowing around in an effort to keep some of the weather out of the cartridges so they could keep as dry as possible it was also used to show how the south was of pride of being southern.

The CS cartridge plate badge has two brass loops on the back which fit through the leather flap and then a brass split pin which is included holds the plate badge in place.

To fix the "C.S." brass plate badge on the flap, you will need to cut two small slits into your M1855 cartridge box flap.
