US A2 Leather Pilots Jacket

From £179.99 £149.99

The classic American WW2 A2 leather flying jacket has become a fashion icon, due to it's timeless look.

There are various A2 leather jackets on the market today, most are inspired versions of the original so they look a bit like an A2 but have added features like front slash pockets or nylon liners etc.

This A2 leather flying jacket is the type that would have been worn by pilots and aircrew in the USAAF in WW2.

The main thing which separates this replica to others lesser ones on the market is that the back panel is made in one piece (which is correct for war time A2's) which allows you to add your own panting on the back as there are ne seams going down the middle. The other thing to look for is that the pockets are square pockets with a top flap on wartime A2 flying jackets there are no extra hand pockets, a lot of copies or A2 style jackets add an extra slashed/angled pocket behind the square pocket this does make a useful addition but it is totally wrong and ruins the vintage 1940's look. Our A2 only has the correct square shaped pockets.

The A2 was officially called "Jacket, Flying, Summer, Type A-2" and was tested in 1930 and entered service as the official US Army Air Corps flying jacket in 1931 and saw service throughout WW2 it was eventually replaced in late 1942 early 1943 by the AH-J-4 flying jacket but aircrew loved this design so much they carried on buying there own A2 jackets made by civilian companies.

Our USAAF A2 leather flying jacket has the following features that are on the originals:

  • Front patch pockets (it does not have slash hand warmer pockets behind the patch pockets).
  • The back is made in a one piece panel so there is no seam down the middle of the jacket.
  • Light brown cotton liner.
  • Press stud fasteners on the pocket flaps.
  • Shoulder epaulette's (shoulder straps) are stitched on both ends to cope with the weight of the parachute harness.
  • Zip up front.
  • Two ventilation eyelets under each arm.
  • Knitted cuffs.
  • Knitted waist band.

Our replica Air Force A2 jacket is made from the correct thickness of leather which is nice and supple so moves with you, this is not a heavy and thick leather used in some replicas which makes it stiff to wear.
