USAAF Leather Flying Helmet Type A-11 WW2 Flying Hat

The A-11 leather flying helmet was introduced in August 1943 and saw use throughout the war in Europe, by pilots and aircrew of the American Air Force.
This leather flying helmet was officially called “Helmet, Flying, Intermediate, Type A-11” with a spec number of 3189/3189-B.

This was a popular flying helmet in WW2 and it can also be seen being worn in the film “Kelly Hero’s” by Sgt Oddball.

This US WW2 leather flying helmet replica, has all the features of the original. This  replica flying helmet has been painstakingly researched and developed from several original flying helmets, to give a great looking leather flying helmet.

The USAAF A-11 flying helmet has the following features just like the original:

  • Brown leather outer.
  • Chamois leather liner.
  • Leather chinstrap which is fastened and can be adjusted with the quick release Bennett type buckle.
  • Rubber ear pieces.
  • Tightening leather strap and buckle at the back.
  • Two leather straps to hold the straps of goggles in place, these have one press on each strap.
  • 1 strap at the back which is sewn down on both ends and holds the lead of the receivers.
  • The front sides have a leather reinforced section which has 4 press studs on each side and then there is a 5th press at the bottom of the left hand side.
  • The press studs are for the attachment of the oxygen mask.
  • USAAF logo stamped on the outside above the ear piece on the left side.
  • USAAF logo stamped on the on inside.
