British Army Black Ankle boots.

During the Napoleonic Wars the British army began issuing ankle boots that replaced the buckle shoes that had been previously issued . This type of boot remained in use throughout the 19th century with minor changes and improvements plus variations in manufacture. These ankle boots are a good representation of what the soldiers would have worn 

During WW1 the British army Issued a Brown version of this boot, but over time and with the use of boot grease they became black
