The (WAAC) Women's Army Auxiliary Corps was formed in 1917. The plan was for these women to serve as clerks, telephonists, waitresses, cooks, Drivers, Mechanics and as instructors in the use of gas masks.
Our WAAC dress features:
- Light Khaki worsted wool fabric
- Removable while collar
- Shoulder boards with red taping
- 14 x Brass General Service buttons 16mm
The WAAC "Workers" uniform collars were brown. The white collars are "Forewomen". Coloured insets in their shoulder strap indicated a women's job.
- Red for the Household section
- Purple for Mechanical and General (except motor drivers)
- Brown for the Clerical section
- Claret for Motor Drivers
