Complete Army Splinter Zeltbahn tent by Richard Underwood Militaria
This was the standard 4 man Zeltbahn tent that Army soldiers would have made up and lived within, the four individual zeltbahns would be taken from a 1/2 section of men and allow these 4 men to sleep and rest at different times, 2 men would sleep while usually 1 would be on guard and the other would be cooking or on other duties, they would then swap around.
The 4 Zeltbahn’s would be buttoned together to form a triangle pyrimid shape tent and then one piece could be propped up to form a door or canopy, with 2 extra poles, when required during the day, Soldiers could also just button 2 zeltbahns together and use one pole plus a guy rope to form a windbreak or shelter.
The Army Splinter Zeltbarn was issued as a rain cape / poncho, there is a flapped hole in the centre and 62 buttons and 32 holes allowing any combination of wear from marching, cycling to making a shelter
