1908 2nd model battle order webbing set, By General Service Equipment
this was worn by the British Army and British Empire soldiers from the winter of 1914 until replaced by 1937 webbing. The difference from the original 1st pattern set is that in October 1914 when soldiers were starting to dig trenches and they stepped up to a fire position on the parapit the left ammo pouch was rubbing on the wood of the trench and coming open with the bullets being lost in the mud below, so a modification was made to stop the pouches opening and is known as the 2nd pattern.
