Summary

21st Independant Company Pathfinders 1st Airborne BD Badge set

This badge set is what British Parachute Troops would have worn on their Battle Dress clothing when based in UK and on combat operations.

    • British 1st Airborne Division during Operation Market Garden  Arhnem  September  1944

This Badge set would have been worn by a Soldier in the 21st Pathfinders Company on his BD Battle Dress uniform in Operation Market Garden as part of the 1st Airborne Brigade. On 17th September the Company jumped marking the DZs and LSs for the first lift. One platoon marked the abortive landing site for the Polish gliders, who landed amid the battle under heavy fire. The Company was trapped within the Oosterbeek Perimeter with the survivors of the 1st airborne Division and experienced heavy casualties.

He was a member of the 1st Airborne Brigade which was part of the 1st Airborne Divisions and so wears the Pegasus and Airborne Tab on both upper Arms with his Regimental shoulder titles Parachute XXI above these.

His Parachute qualification badge would have been sewn on his upper right sleeve , plus he would have also worn another one on his Denison Smock.
