British 1908 Cavalry Sword by Lantern Armouries.

The Pattern 1908 cavalry sword was the last new sword design accepted for service in the British Army. The design had its origins in the Boer war and was revolutionary in concept, as it featured a thin, tapering blade, intended entirely for thrusting.

Lantern Armouries 1908 Cavalry Sword is a faithfully replica which is handmade by Swordsmith's using Traditional craftsman methods making this the correct weight and balance with all the features of the originals including

  • Stamped with original maker Wilkinson pall Mall
  • Stamped with board of Ordnance acceptance marks
  • Correct weight and balance of original sword
  • Polished steel scabbard with 2 hooks
  • Long pistol-shaped grip, angled and swelling towards the pommel.
  • The sides of the grip are chequered as is the deep depression, for thumb,
  • Large well curved bowl guard
  • Sword knot slit near pommel and tapered oval
  • Narrow, straight thrusting blade which tapers to small double-edged spear point,
  • Length overall 44 inches
  • Blade length 36 inches
  • Sword and scabbard weight: 1700 grams

The sword was superbly designed, having perfect balance in the hand and an unusual 'pistol' type grip, which automatically brought the sword into thrusting position when correctly gripped. The sword proved successful in the mounted actions in which it was employed by Cavalry during the First World War on the western front and in the Middle East.

The 1908 pattern sword is still used by the British Army cavalry for Ceremonial duties.
