Carentan 1940's Vintage Metal WW2 Road Sign with bullet holes
Carentan metal road sign. Size 83 x 30 cms (12 inches x 33 inches)
WW2 Town sign that is seen in pictures with US 101st Airborne Soldiers fighting to take Carentan in Operation Overlord June 1944.
This sign is impressive and will look good on your display or in your den. Its made of 18 Gauge steel like they would have been in the 1940's, With black lettering on a white background. The sign has then to add age and authenticity to it has been aged, scratched, rusted, chipped and bullet holes to finish it off.
Carentan was defended by two battalions of Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 6, and the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Div were ordered to reinforce Carentan, The attacking 101st Airborne Div landed by parachute on 6th June and was ordered to seize Carentan.
In the ensuing battle, the 101st forced a passage across the causeway into Carentan on 10th and 11th June. A lack of ammunition forced the German forces to withdraw on 12 June. The 17th SS PzG Division counter-attacked the 101st Airborne on 13 June.
