French M1877 water bottle and strap.
The M1877 water bottle was originally issued in a 1 litre capacity but the difficulty of supplying combat troops in the front lines led to the introduction in 1915 of the 2 litre version. The M1877 water bottle is enamelled metal and was covered with a horizon blue wool cover plus has a single wooden stopper in the main spout connected by string, the smaller spout does not work . A good quality removable leather strap with brass buckle is attached to 2 swing swivels and has been made 150cms long.
