This ATS Soldier has been posted to 8th Army in North Africa around 1942 as a Field Medic near the front line at a First Aid Dressing station.
This Medic wears a standard 1937 webbing belt to look smart and a 1937 medical shoulder bag which would have contained shell dressing etc.

ATS L/Cpl Nurse/ Medic North Africa
This ATS soldier has been posted to 8th Army in North Africa around 1942 as a Field Nurse/ Medic near the front line at a First Aid Dressing station.
All ATS who were posted to North Africa and the Middle East were issued Khaki Drill clothing, a Khaki Drill Skirt for hard wearing, Lightweight Airtex shirt for breath-ability and no special hat was issued just a normal Service Dress cap which would have been used in the UK together with their Brown ankle shoes with short khaki socks
8th Army badges are sewn onto slip on shoulder slides and rank was brass pinned on so these could be removed easily before getting washed at the local dobie where they would have been washed, bashed and rubbed clean.
