This Rare Syrian Republican Guard metal badge would have been worn on the chest pocket of their uniform.
The badge is made of a brass coloured metal with folded edges near the top, the skull and sword are made if raised brass so this is a quality made badge. the back csrew fitting is a polish company MENNICA PARSTWOWA which we fit in with the communist backed Assad government back in the 1970's.

The unit was formed around 1971 and was based in Damasus and were loyal to the regime, they were deployed to Lebanon in the 1970's a few times and also in the war 1982.

We bought about 20 of these badges from a badge dealer back in the late 1980's together with 1000's of others when they were closing down and until lately, they have sat in the same box waiting to find out what they were.
