Army Heer Black Panzer Wrap Over Tunic with Badges by Richard Underwood

From £99.99 £83.32

This German Army black Panzer Wrap over tunic was first issued to Panzer (tank) crews and was later worn by various personnel within the Armoured units.

The black colour was chosen to hide any oil stains etc from working inside the confines of a tank, it was initially intended top be worn as a service uniform but because of it looks it was soon worn for all use including dress.

The panzer tunic is often referred to as the "Wrap over" due to the way front fastened with its double breasted design.

Before 1943 the edge of the collars would have pink piping sewn all along the edge of the collar, in 1943 this practice was stopped and all colours where left plain with no extra pink piping sewn onto them. These Panzer Wrap overs we have for sale are made in the 1943 pattern with no extra pink piping on the collar.

In WW2 the Heer (Army) and the Waffen SS both wore black wrap over tunics but they had slightly design differences, this model is the correct version worn by the Heer.

Some of the differences between the Army Wrap over and the SS Wrap over include:

  • The Army version front flap goes further around the body so the flap cuts back on angle near the top when it is fully fastened, the SS panzer wrap over has a straight vertical flap closure.
  • The collars tips on the Army model are more pointed than the collars on the SS version.
  • The back of the Army tunic is made from two panels so there is a centre seam running down the middle of the back, the back of the SS tunic is made in one piece so there is no centre seam on the back.

There are many replica Panzer Wrap over tunics for sale some and some not so good. Some do not fit correctly, some are made from poor fabrics and feel like felt rather than wool and some do not have all the features or the correct pattern design.

These Panzer wrap overs by Richard Underwood Militaria are one of the best on the market, they are made from quality wool, they have a good smart fit and are fully featured even down to the correct quality insignia.

The Richard Underwood Militaria Heer Panzer Wrap over has the following features:

  • Quality black wool.
  • Front wrap over flap is straight vertical from the bottom hem to the arm pit then its cuts diagonally across the chest up to the collars.
  • Flap is fastened by 4 large concealed black resin buttons at the bottom and 3 smaller exposed buttons at the top.
  • On the other side of the front flap there are two small resin buttons which fasten onto two tabs on the liner of the tunic.
  • Collar has a metal hook and loop fastener so it can be worn open neck or closed up to the collar.
  • Collar tips are pointed.
  • On the inside there is cotton cords on each side to pull in and adjust the waist.
  • Cotton tabs hanging below the arm pits with four holes in them to fit the belt support hooks in.
  • In the side seams there is a sewn in cotton tab which has four slits sewn (like rectangle button holes) to fit the belt support hooks in. Please note the slits (holes) are stitched but the fabric has not been cut through to keep a neat appearance if you want to fit the belt support hooks you would simply cut the fabric between the stitching. The stitching stops the hole from enlarging, this is how they make button holes.
  • Front inside sections are both lined in grey cotton.
  • Inside pocket on the left chest with a vertical access opening.
  • Inside pocket on the right chest with a horizontal opening.
  • The back of the wrap over is made from two panels so there is a centre seam running down the middle.
  • Four darts (fabric sewn in to form a better/tighter shape) running up half way up the tunic from the bottom hem (two at the back and two at the front).
  • Sleeve cuffs are adjustable with two small resin buttons.
  • Includes black shoulder boards with rose pink piping for Panzer troops.
  • Includes quality Army panzer collar tabs sewn on which are a pair of black rhomboid shaped patches with rose pink piping and a metal deaths head skull in the middle of them.
  • Includes quality Bevo Panzer Army breast eagle sewn onto the chest.

The only rank worn on the Panzer Wrap over tunic would be the sleeve patches and shoulder boards no silver tresse (braid) was sewn onto the collars like on the standard 4 pocket tunics.

Price is for 1 x Army Panzer Wrap over tunic with insignia already sewn on so it is ready to wear.

We also have for the sale the correct matching Army black trousers, see below under the related items.
