WLA Women’s Land Army Uniform Set

The WLA was reformed in June 1939 on a volunteer basis and by the end of the year had recruited 4,500 women, at its peak more than 87,000 were employed in 1943. The " Land Girls" as they were called were employed nationally working on farms, planting crops, harvesting and tending to animals.

This uniform set was the most commonly worn by Land Girls as this was practical when carrying out all these working farm duties, the cord breeches are hard wearing, and shoes could be replaced with wellingtons boots with a head scarf of a civilian pattern was quite often worn instead of the felt hat.
