The USS Arizona aircraft carrier was built before WW1 and commissioned into the United States Navy in 1916. It was a super dreadnought and was named after the 48th state of America which had recently joined the union.
In 1941 the Arizona was serving in the Pacific and was based in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked on the 7th December 1941 where it was sunk with the loss of 1,177 Officers and crewman. Since then it has stayed at the bottom of Pearl Harbor as a memorial to all who lost there lives on that day.
The baseball cap is the type sold at Navy "PX's" post exchange shops and has a sewn on badge on the front with the out line of the USS Arizona with the words "USS Arizona BB-39" above the ship and "Pearl Harbor" below it.
