WLA Women’s Land Army Working Uniform Set
The WLA was reformed in June 1939 on a volunteer basis and by the end of the year had recruited 4,500 women, at its peak more than 87,000 were employed in 1943. The " Land Girls" as they were called were employed nationally working on farms, planting crops, harvesting and tending to animals.
This uniform set was worn by Land Girls when working on the land as it was practical when carrying out all these working farm duties, The bib and Braces are made of Denim which is hard wearing and easy to clean, Wellingtons boots with a head scarf was quite often worn as a piratical working uniform set.
The WLA Arm Band was always worn as a from of Identification when on duty and the WLA Cap Badge could be worn on the head scarf of pinned onto the bid and brace.
