These wooden pegs which are called wooden pins by the US Army are the style of wood pegs carried by the US Army soldiers in WW2 for use with the US Army pup tent.

Each soldier carried one shelter half, five wood pegs and a guy rope in his pack, which made half of a pup tent, so two soldiers could join always join up and make a two man pup tent in the field.
