  • Loading ram rod moves up and pushes into the cylinder which on the real revolver would compact the charge.

The French Le Mat pistol was a 9 shot .40 calibre revolver with a second barrel below the rifled pistol barrel. The second barrel was a .63 calibre shotgun barrel so the Le Mat would also fire a single shot of buckshot!

The Le Mat was carried and favoured by Major General James Ewell Brown Stuart (Jeb Stuart") and was reported as firing a volley from his Le Mat revolver into the 5th Michigan's troopers at the battle of Yellow Tavern in Virginia which helped to scatter there ranks and stopping the Federal advance, during this engagement Jeb Stuart was shot and later died.

The Confederacy manage to purchase and import 1,500 Le Mat revolvers through Paris and London. The LeMat can be seen in the following films; "Last stand at Sabre River" and "The quick and the dead".

It has become more popular since it was used in the TV series "Westworld" by the man in black played by "Ed Harris".
