American M 1935 bedding roll or M35 bed roll

These where available to every officer in the US Army from the Quartermaster but not everyone carried. This would be used to carry your sleeping gear including a pup tent. Ideal for vehicle based units, you would not carry these if you were in infantry on the front line as it would be too bulky and heavy it would stay behind with your kit bag.

The roll's main body is made from heavy cotton canvas with the side panels made from a lighter cotton with 3 securing straps which fasten across the width. This holds your sleeping gear such as blankets, sleeping pad and sleeping bag. The two end sections are pockets so you can carry a pup tent and other camping essentials.

These are top quality replicas made by Kay Canvas using strong heavy canvas.

The M1935 Bedding roll features:

• End pocket A measures 66cm wide 42cm high 9cm deep and is a single compartment.
• End pocket B measures 66cm wide 42cm high 8cm deep and is split into 3 compartments.
• Both end pockets are fastened with straps and buckles.
• The main body made of heavy cotton canvas measures 197cm x 110cm.
• Sewn down both sides of the main body are lightweight cotton panels measuring 64cm wide so you can fold these across the roll to keep the contents (sleeping gear) from falling out.
• Across the body there are 3 adjustable straps and buckles to secure your sleeping gear when it is rolled away.
• On the back there are three webbing loops to slide the bed roll carrying straps through (straps not included) these straps also hold the optional harness keeper, carrying handle (not included).

The bed roll holds your sleeping gear you can put a thin mattress or a couple of blankets in the bottom and your sleeping bag on top of your mattress then roll up the bed roll. So when you set your camp up just un-roll the bedroll and your bed is ready.

The bed roll can fit over a camp cot/bed so the two end pockets hang over the ends.

These are great to keep your camp gear together just pack the roll onto your jeep and ready.

The WW2 officers guide suggests things that you could carry in a bed roll a complete shelter pup tent includes poles and pins (pegs), spare clothing, thin mattress or folded blankets, sleeping bag, waterproof sheet or poncho to protect from dew or rain, folding canvas bucket, folding wash basin, a small rug or piece of canvas to provide a place free from mud, dirt, sand or dust while dressing or undressing. They even suggest you could carry a folding cot, which would make it very bulky and difficult to carry.

These bed rolls use a lot of canvas and the quality canvas used on these rolls is not cheap, these worked out to be more expensive than we originally planned due to cost of the materials so only a small production run has been made for the time being.
