Model 1855 US government regulation leather equipment belt with oval "US" brass buckle attached.
This is the standard leather belt issued by the Northern Federal Government to the United States Army. The belt with the distinctive brass oval buckle with the large "US" in the middle is probably one of the most iconic and easily recognised item from the American Civil War.
The M1855 leather belt is just under 2" wide and is available in two sizes. The brass buckle is fixed onto the belt in the original way as it was designed.
US M1855 leather belt sizes:
The sizes are the actual measurements of the belts, when you order remember how you are going to wear the M1855 belt and bras buckle. You will need to allow (add a few inches on) for any clothes the belt is going over. If you are wearing it a belt for your jeans allow 2" extra if you are going to wear it over a shirt and tunic you will need to add at least 5" depending on the jacket you are going to wear it over. Just put the jacket on and measure over the jacket to find the size to order.
You can of course add extra holes into the belts to make them smaller. Sizes are from the tip of the buckle to the first and last punched hole on the belt.
